"Litany was written for John Wallace in 1999. The title refers to the ruined mediaeval chapel on the Holms of Ire, Sanday, next to my new home there. I imagined the music being played in the ruin, open to the skies, in the vast stillness of that haunted land and seascape." - Peter Maxwell Davies
This film is the result of that composer's note - myself and filmmaker Tim Williams travelled up to the ruined chapel and made this film; a tribute to Max, his music, and a place he loved.
